Recommended Truck for Towing a 20,000 lb 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Hello, My family is looking at purchasing a new truck in order to tow up to 20,000 lbs with a 5th wheel camper. We are looking for a recommendation on truck/s that can handle this effectively with cross country trips and want to also ensure we have the most efficient and effective axle ratio. What trucks would you recommend for us to meet this need?

There are many Heavy Duty/Super Duty 1 ton trucks that can tow 20,000 lb 5th wheel campers cross country. I recommend getting a long bed truck and getting the factory prep package so you will have a clean bed for other uses when not towing. If you do this, you will need to get a 5th wheel hitch compatible with the puck system in the truck you choose or at least get the rail adapter if you already have a hitch compatible with the trailer weight. If you let me know what vehicle you choose, I'd be happy to assist.

The alternative to still have a clean bed is to install a B&W gooseneck hitch (vehicle specific fits) and then use the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch # BWRVK3500 which will handle the 20K capacity.

I've attached three articles to help you compare capacities when choosing a truck.
