Recommended USA-Made Hitch and Wiring Harness for 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen
Question:
Can you help us with a hitch and trailer wiring harness for our 2018 VW Golf SportWagen? We're just going to pull a small trailer with mulch.

We offer several options in a light-duty Class I hitch for your VW Golf SportWagen that will let you pull your small utility trailer. All of them happen to have the same capacities and will install in the same way but one offers you a chance to install a USA-made hitch made from recycled materials, the EcoHitch # 306-X7315.
I linked a photo that shows the clean appearance of the EcoHitch after installed on a Golf and the instructions to install it are included too. You do not have to drill anything; installation is bolt-on.
For a wiring harness you have a choice of two types, the Curt # C59236 that hard-wires into the VW and the Tekonsha ZCI Zero Contact harness # 119250KIT that installs non-invasively just by snapping its sensors on to the car's wiring. This unique feature allows this harness to be easily removed from the VW and installed in virtually any other vehicle you might own in the future. An installation video for the ZCI is linked for you.
Towing will also require a ball mount, hitch ball and a hitch pin or lock. For a ball mount you can use Curt part # C45521 along with either 2-inch ball # A-82 or 1-7/8-inch ball # A-80, depending on the size required by your trailer's coupler.
I recommend locking the ball mount with lock # C23517 but if you prefer you can use simple non-locking hitch pin # F-4.
Last, I included an article with tips for safe towing.
