How to Install the Curt Trailer Connector Part # C57101 on a 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I will need to find what I might call a “standard or Universal” RV 7 pin plug that has some weatherproofing on the rear of the plug where I run the wires from the 5th wheel. It appears that the 7 pin receiver plugs that you sell are mainly to do the “plug & play” style applications, where a guy has an OEM plug that simply plugs into your new Curt or Hopkins plugs. I need one that I can tap into the wires at the rear of the 5th wheel and run the wires into the body of the 7 pin plug. Are those style plugs still available?? Seems like these had a rubber seal in the back that had a clamp that you screwed down for a fairly tight seal………..

The reverse light circuit is almost always on the center pin of a 7-way trailer connector which you can see from the attached photo. If your 5th wheel trailer has reverse lights then you can just tap into this but if not you would need to run a wire from the trailer side trailer connector all the way back to the end of the trailer.

Please keep in mind that in order to install the Curt Trailer Connector part # C57101 you are first going to have to splice the Curt Universal Wiring Harness part # C56229 into the taillights on the trailer first.

It sounds like you are looking for a 7-way trailer connector that you can wire yourself. If that is the case then you are going to want to use part # PK12-707E for the vehicle side and part # PK12706 for the trailer side. Basically, you will remove the shell of the trailer connector which will then expose a set of terminals. Once you strip the jacket back on the wire you will then place it into the terminal while using the screw to tighten it back down. There is a rubber grommet on the rear of each trailer connector which will work to keep out dirt and moisture. Please let me know if this is not what you are referring to.
