What Type of Tow Bar Needs to be Used with Roadmaster Base Plate # 1418-1

Question:

My Toe Bar brackets attach with two horizontal bolts spacing about 3 3/4 inches. The Base Plate has two horizontal holes. Do you know the spacing? There is no bar connecting the attach points. This means the base plates would be pulled towards each other when toeing. Is this unacceptable? Can a separate bar be purchased to tie the base plates together or can this be had only by buying a new toe bar. My Toe Bar has chains to tie to the toe vehicle and to the vehicle being toed. Do the base plates have provisions for connecting chains?

The Roadmaster XL Base Plate kit part # 1418-1 that you referenced needs to be used with a Roadmaster tow bar that has a crossbar connection like the Stowmaster part # RM-501. If your tow bar does not have a crossbar assembly there might be an adapter available for it that would allow it to be used with a Roadmaster base plate kit but I'd have to know what you have. I attached a help article to this page that has a chart with all of the base plate kit to tow bar adapters we offer.
