Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller Shows 0.0 After Sleep Mode
Question:
To start, you guys have wonderful customer support! How long is it after you turn your key to on does the Tekonsha p2 should the brake controller show N.C. without the trailer connected For some odd reason, 50 of the time when I turn my 07 Tahoe on without my trailer connected, it shows n.c., the other half of the time it shows 0.0 i have adjusted the settings all the way down. From my understanding, when the p2 is connected, and there is no trailer connected, it should show n.c. At all times. Is there a time delay for it to searchinch for a trailer then revert back to n.c.? or should it automatically show n.c. as soon as the truck it turned on When there is no trailer connected? And lastly, should I be able to adjust the settings on the voltage/number output when there is no trailer connected? Usually turning off the car and back on seems to work, but dont feel this is correct. It seems to me that the brake controller is falsely reading that there is a trailer connected when it is not, but only 50 of the time. How can I go about troubleshooting this issue? I have already verified all wires are hooked up correctly and replaced the brake controller. My previous p2 showed voltage/ number rising when accelerating, hence the reason why I replaced it! Hope you guys can help, as I would love to see n.c. When the trailer is not connected, and only voltage/ numbers rising when the break is applied! I have also redone the butt connectors to eliminate the possibility of a misconnection. Thank you in advance for your guidance!!

Once the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 receives power, it should flash "n.c" for about 15 seconds and then it should show " . .". There should be no delay in this sequence. However, I spoke to my contact at Tekonsha and they said that they have had instances where the controller would show a reading once woken up even through there is not a trailer connected. They said this is normal and should go right back to the "n.c" screen. If you are not having issues with the controller's performance then I would not worry about this.
If you feel there is any issue then the only thing it would be is a short in the blue brake output wire that runs from the brake controller back to the vehicles 7-way trailer connector. If you wanted you could trace this wire for breaks. The analogy that Tekonsha provided was to image that you were in a deep sleep and the phone rang so you went to answer the door. If the controller is suddenly awaken from sleep mode it can show a voltage output but that does not mean anything is wrong.
