Recommended Towing Setup for 2016 Toyota Sienna AWD

Question:

I have a toyota sienna 2016 AWD. It doesnt have a towing package and I learned I cant get a towing package on this vehicle but I understand it can tow up to 3500 lb? Is that true? Also since the hitch receiver is hidden, what do you recommend to put into the receiver that comes out far enough to clear the bumper? I learned that if you use a hitch extender it cuts the towing capacity in half 1500 lbs so I wondered if there is a hitch with ball that is long enough that would not be like an extender but would clear the bumper?

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75237 is a great option for your 2016 Toyota Sienna. This hitch receiver has the hitch pin hole that is recessed 4-1/2 inches behind the outer bumper, so most ball mounts will allow proper clearance. If you want a cleaner look with better ground clearance, I recommend # 76112 which has 4 inches clearance from the pin to the outer bumper.

Then you can use a ball mount like # BWTS10035B which will work well with either hitch option giving you 9-1/4 inches from pin hole to center of ball at closest pin hole or 10-3/8 inches from the center of the ball to the farther hitch pin hole. This will be a great system for you that will also allow a nice stowable feature when not in use. I recommend # e98882 for a hitch pin lock to secure your ball mount.

For your wiring, I recommend # 118648 if you have any model other than the SE. If you have the SE model then I recommend # 118498. These will fit your factory wiring harness behind your tail lights and then draw power directly from your battery to protect the electronics. I've attached an article to help with routing that power wire and have attached videos to assist with the installation.

Let me know if you have other questions.
