Why is the Locking Plate # DM6025 Required for a MOR/ryde Pin Box When Using the Autoslide Hijacker

Question:

I have a DEMCO Autoslide hitch in my 2007 GMC 2500HD. I purchased this hitch because I didnt want to install special adapters on my trailer. I am now considering purchasing a trailer that has a Mor Ryde pin box, and I see that a special plate would be needed to hookup to my DEMCO hitch. Why is that needed? What will happen if I do not get the special plate? Can a trailer that has the adapter plate be pulled by a regular fifth wheel hitch?

Most pin boxes, like the common Lippert 1621 # LC1191191, have a solid connection to the king pin and can be secured to the Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550034 via the built-in brackets. Since the MOR/ryde pin boxes have a unique connection to the king pin the Locking Plate # DM6025 is needed so that the pin box can remain secure.

This locking plate has a wedge on it so if you were to tow your trailer with a 5th wheel hitch that doesn't automatically slide (and has the same funnel size on the hitch head as the Hijacker) then the locking plate will need to be removed. If it is not removed then any turn could damage your trailer or the truck towing it and any equipment involved in the towing process.
