Does OEM Brake Controller Need to be Replaced with Aftermarket Controller on a 2014 Ram Pickup

Question:

If we have an integrated brake control on our 2014 Dodge Ram, is it necessary for the camper dealer to charge us 200 for a braking system or can we use the brake control built in on our truck as the means to brake the camper were towing?

If the OEM brake controller on your 2014 Ram pickup is operating properly then you don't "need" an aftermarket controller.

With that being said, the OEM controllers aren't as reliable as aftermarket options so it may not be a bad idea. I am not sure how much they charge for labor, but I can say that swapping out the OEM brake controller for an aftermarket option really isn't hard at all. Currently the best controller that we offer is the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED63RR due to the versatility. This connects to your OEM wiring with the adapter # 3023-P and is right around the price mark that you mentioned. I can guarantee that the controller they install won't be as nice as this one.

If you are looking to save a few bucks then I recommend going with the Prodigy P3 # 90195 which installs with the adapter # 3023-P. This is one of the only controllers out there that uses an LCD screen so you can see exactly what is going on without having to read codes.

I have attached some videos for you to check out on the controllers if you would rather go this route as I am not sure the quality of the controller that they will be installing.
