Replacement Fresh Water Backflow Preventer on 1983 Avion Trailer

Question:

I have a 1983 Avion travel trailer. When I use the pump with my freshwater holding tank it pressurizes the city water inlet and will blow water out of it if not capped. There is a factory, built in pressure regulator/backflow preventer that I assume has failed. Would this be a correct assumption? Since I already use an external pressure regulator when hooking up, if I purchase a backflow preventer to replace the factory unit should this fix my problem?

It does indeed sound like your existing backflow preventer has failed and is just in need of a replacement. For this you can use the Camco RV Backflow Preventer # CAM23402 that you were looking at. The connector has a 3/4 inch inner diameter. It will install behind the city water connection to prevent water from coming out of the city water connection when you're using the freshwater tank and pump.

Replacing the backflow preventer should resolve this issue.
