How to Find the Capacity of a Trailer Hub to See if it Fits a 3,500 Pound Axle

Question:

I just bought an axel rated for 3500lbs. My question is, How do I know what the rating is on the current hub assys that I have??? I was planning on using the hubs assy that came off the old axel, old axel had a straight 1inch or 1 1/6 inch spindle on it! Thank for you time.

If your old hubs have any numbers on them you could tell me what they are and I might be able to figure it out that way. Or if you still have the bearings let me know what the bearing numbers are that are stamped into the sides of the bearings.

A straight spindle with a 1 inch diameter or 1-1/16 inch diameter generally will be associated with 2,000 to 2,700 pound axles though so chances are they will not be an appropriate fit for a 3,500 pound axle. A 3,500 pound axle almost always takes inner bearing L68149 and outer bearing L44649. I have included a link to all the hubs and hub and drum assemblies for 3,500 pound axles.
