Will Demco Hijacker Autoslide Work with Ford F-150 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
Question:
I have a 2017 ford F-150 with the eco-boost but the truck is only a 5 1/2 foot bed. A guy I know has the same truck and use as a sidewinder to get by due to the short length, my question is would this hitch work without a additional King pin for the trailer or would it be to close to the truck cab.

The Demco Hijacker Autoslide, part # DM8550034, may give you enough clearance to make a complete 90 degree turn in your 2017 Ford F-150 even with the 5-1/2 foot bed. In order to find out for sure find the distance the from where the center of the hitch's jaws will be in your bed and measure to back of your cab (A). This location ios likely going to be right over th rear axle. Add 14 to that for the amount of travel the Demco provides (B). Then take that number and subtract the width of your trailer divided in half (C). The formula looks like this:
(A+B) - C = Clearance
If your clearance is at least 4 inches then you can make complete turns.
If the hitch doesn't travel enough then a Sidewinder is your only option. Sidewinders move the pivot point back 22 inches. If you need to go this route let me know the model number of your pin box and I'll find the correct Sidewinder for you.
