Recommended Trailer Braking for Air Brake System On Motorhome to Tow Vehicle

Question:

We do not have any hoses compatible with your Glad Hands connectors nor have an adapter. The closest thing we have is the Replacement Air Jumper for SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System # SM99666. We do not have any parts for air brakes on trailers but we do have some other options that wouldn't utilize the Glad Hand connections, but also won't harm them for that connection to still function. All we can offer is a brake controller like the Hayes Air Actuated Trailer Brake Controller # HA100400C which is compatible with electric brakes as well as electric over hydraulic actuators like # HS381-8066 to offer hydraulic trailer brake function on a trailer connected to an air brake vehicle. Let me know if I can be of further help.

For your Freightliner Cascadia Chassis with Glad Hand Air Line Connections, you will want to adapt a hose like # SM99666 to work with your truck's connector. There is no need to splice into anything on the truck/motorhome. You can simply run the air hose to your towed vehicle so it can utilize that air line for the supplemental braking system from the blue line on your Glad Hand connector. My favorite air compatible system is the SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes - Proportional # SM99243 which will allow you to use the air line to give you braking on your vehicle without needing to setup something each time. You simply connect the air line and you are good to go. The separate tank on this system is to ensure you have the braking power for your breakaway portion of the system in the case that there is an issue with the connection between the two vehicles. Another option is the Roadmaster BrakeMaster System w BrakeAway for RVs w Air or Air Over Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional # RM-9160. This system physically attaches to the brake pedal of your towed vehicle and uses an actuator to apply the brakes on your vehicle through the brake pedal directly. If you choose to avoid the air connection all together, you can use the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System - Proportional # BLU37TR which uses a wireless remote and an electric actuator with a built in battery backup for the breakaway system. I've attached some videos to assist.
