Trailer Hitch Availability for a 2007 Toyota Camry SE
Question:
I have a 2007 Toyota Camry SE 4 cyl. I am being told that I cannot put a hitch on it because of the model. I was wondering if that is true. I would like to put a disability scooter carrier, with a scooter on the back for day trips. Can you please help me out here? Thanks,

We do have the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 36416 that is compatible with your 2007 Toyota Camry SE. This is a Class II trailer hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver and it has a 3,500 lb gross trailer weight rating as well as a 300 lb tongue weight rating.
When I looked up an online copy of your owner's manual it stated on page 327 that the max amount of trailer weight it can tow is 1,000 lbs and then it also stated that the max tongue weight of your Camry is 100 lbs. Even though the trailer hitch is rated for more weight than your vehicle you will be limited by your vehicle's ratings as it is the weaker part of your towing setup.
Since all of our hitch cargo carriers weigh at least 50 lbs (most of them well over that) it is very unlikely that you will be able to stay under the 100 lb tongue weight rating. Because of this I recommend using a small trailer to transport the scooter. As long as the trailer and scooter weigh under 1,000 lbs and you can ensure that the tongue weight won't exceed 100 lbs this will be the way to go.
You will also need wiring for the trailer lights and a ball mount kit to tow your trailer. I recommend going with a T-One Wiring Kit, part # 118482 if you have a Hybrid or part # 118405 if you don't, and then a ball mount kit like part # C45147. Check out the linked ball mount article though to make sure that the 3/4" rise is correct for your application.
