I took a look in the owner's manual for your 2014 Ford Escape and was able to find that the roof load capacity is 100 lbs if you do not have a moonroof or 45 lbs if you do have a moonroof. The payload of your vehicle will be listed on the Tire Label on the B-Pillar or the edge of the driver door. Look for “THE COMBINED WEIGHT OF OCCUPANTS AND CARGO SHOULD NEVER EXCEED XXX kg OR XXX lb.” for maximum payload. This can all be found in the load carrying section of your owner's manual which starts on page 166.

If you do not already have a roof rack, I recommend using the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack part # MPG215 so long as you have raised side rails. This option has aero crossbars for reduced wind noise/drag and it comes with locks for security. In order to secure your belongings to the roof I recommend taking a look at either the Malone Cargo12 Rooftop Cargo Box part # MPG901.

I have attached review videos for you as well.
