The only base plates I show listed for a 1998 Mustang are the Roadmaster XL Base Plates, # 466-1, that you have referenced. These base plates will not fit an SVT or Cobra model.

Since you have a Blue Ox Rangefinder II tow bar, you would need an adapter to go from Roadmaster Base Plates to the Blue Ox tow bar. The correct adapter is the Blue Ox Rangefinder II to Roadmaster Bracket Adapter, # RM-037.

You will also want to check the owners manual for the Mustang to determine if it can be flat towed and if there are any special procedures or equipment you will need.

Besides base plates and a tow bar, you will also need safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking for the Mustang. For safety cables, I recommend the Coiled Cables, # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables from contacting the ground.

For lighting, there are numerous possible options depending on your specific needs. I have included a link to our FAQ article that covers the various options.

Most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Roadmaster Even Brake, # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. Proportional systems are the safest way to stop and reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have also included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing for you.
