Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2004 Ford Mustang GT Behind a Motor Home

Question:

I am preparing to flat tow my 2004 Mustang GT behind my recently purchased motor home. I am looking at the Roadmaster Base Plate for that vehicle. There is a notation in the info for the Blue Ox that the bumpr facia must be removed and replaced to install that base plate. Is this the case with the Roadnaster as well? Thanks

The instructions for Roadmaster base plates, # 466-1, do not indicate any fascia trimming or removal on the 2004 Ford Mustang. I have included a link to the instructions for you.

For a compatible tow bar a popular option is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. I have linked its instructions and a video for you to view.

You will also need safety cables such as # RM-643. The coiled design of these cables helps keep them off of the ground.

For lighting you are probably going to want to go with a magnetic kit such as # RM-2120 to avoid cutting into the vehicle wiring. Magnetic kits are a low-cost lighting solution that do not require a complicated install.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system, # RM-9400. It will apply the Mustang brakes in proportion to how much the RV is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult the Mustang owners manual for specific information on flat towing it. I have also included a couple of helpful links to our series of articles on flat towing for you.
