Which Direction Should Diode Face to Prevent Manual Override Backfeed 2018 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Controller are designed to put voltage back on the circuit they are attached to when the override lever is pulled to activate the brake lights of the trailer in that situation. So what you can do is install the one-way diode part # RM-690 on the red wire circuit with the IN side pointing to the wiring of the vehicle and the OUT to the controller. That will stop the controller from backfeeding power on the stoplight circuit. The issue is the wire you ran the red wire of the P3 part # 90195 to. Weve heard from Tekonsha that a 1 amp diode needs to install on this circuit to prevent the controller from backfeeding onto the vehicle wiring. Or you can use the part # RM-690 from us. The IN side would point towards the controller.

Expert Reply:
If the goal is to prevent the stoplight circuit of a brake controller from putting voltage back onto the vehicle wiring when the manual override lever is slid the diode like the part # RM-690 would have to have the output side face the controller. The out side of the diode is the direction voltage can flow through so allowing the vehicle to send voltage to the controller but not the other way around would mean having the diode have the out side face the controller.
