Installing Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller on 2018 VW Atlas with Tow Package
Question:
We are in need of a brake controller for a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas with factory installed towing package. I see that the recommended controller is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 - does this mean that the unit can be connected to the existing 4-pin wiring harness located in the drivers side foot-well without any other equipment/harnesses required? Are any other parts required for the installation of the unit? Thanks for your help.

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 that you referenced is an excellent choice and it will work great with your 2018 VW Atlas.
If your VW Atlas is equipped with a fully functional 7-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle, then the controller just needs to be hardwired to the factory harness you found beneath the dash. On the brake controller, the black wire is for 12V power, the blue wire is for brake output to the 7-Way, the red wire is for the cold side of your brake light switch, and the white wire is for ground. If the wires you found on the Atlas are not labeled, you will want to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to ensure you make the right connections.
If there is not a 7-Way already at the rear of the vehicle then you will need to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118754 followed by the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. If you already have a 4-Way connector then you just need the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. I have attached the complete installation instructions that you can take a look at.
