Trouble Removing the B&W Companion Hitch Head

Question:

I remove the Saddle lock pins. Then grab the saddle handles and lift to remove the head from the pivot arms. Ha Ha Ha, I see a few videos where they just lift right off but not mine. Even going on you had to push down and you could feel the head slide over the bushings. I ordered a 20K lb hitch the base says 25K is the head correct? Am I doing something wrong?

The process you described to remove the head from your B&W Companion Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter part # BWRVK3500 is correct. The reason you are have having trouble is because of the bushings on the pivot arms. They need to be properly greased each time you remove the head. You can use the LubriMatic White Lithium Grease part # L11354 for this. This should make removing the head much easier though there may still be some rocking involved.

The Replacement Head Assembly for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # BWRVC3006 which is what you have is rated at 25,000 lbs but can be used on both the 20,000 lb and 25,000 lb bases. The weakest component is the capacity you will need to abide by. You do indeed have the correct head.
