Parts Needed to Use Reese 5th Wheel Hitch # RP30047 on 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 Short Bed
Question:
2015 Chevy 2500 with 6 1/2 foot bed. I acquired a Reese #30047 along with my used 5th wheel. The base rails were in a 2013 F-150. Will this hitch work in my 2500? What parts do I need to make it work?

Expert Reply:
The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30047 that you recently acquired will physically fit and attach to base rails on your 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500, the issue though is the truck's short 6-1/2 foot bed. A short bed truck like yours requires a sliding hitch so that you have the needed cab clearance when making tight turns.
If you want to keep your newly obtained Reese hitch you can simply replace the fixed base with the Square Tube Slider # RP30048. This will convert the hitch to a sliding model that will give you up to 10 inches of front to back travel.
Otherwise your best option is to simply go with a new sliding hitch altogether, such as the excellent Reese # RP30083. This sliding hitch features a forged single-piece jaw for an excellent connection with the trailer king pin, a round-tube slider for smooth operation, and a 20,000 pound towing capacity.
Regardless of the option you choose above, if you already have the Reese Universal Base Rails # RP58058, you will just need to add frame brackets like the Custom Bracket Kit # RP50066 and hardware # RP58504. These are custom brackets confirmed to fit your 2015 Chevy Silverado that will use existing holes in the truck's frame for installation.
If you don't already have base rails the complete kit that includes the rails, brackets, and hardware is part # RP50066-58.
I have attached an installation video and the detailed written instructions that you can use for reference.
