Troubleshooting Curt TriFlex Brake Controller

Question:

About 1500 miles into a 2000 mile trip brakes began locking up and controller became very hot. Rc code then Dc code. reset plug. Now will only give ol code. Red wire shows hot with break pressure. Blue wire never shows hot. Is the short in the controller? At a stop the breaks will lock and after a few seconds they release. Controller is about a year old. Purchased from e trailer. This is first issue.

Your Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV is not functioning correctly. It sounds like you have checked the red wire and that is functioning correctly but the blue wire is not. There should be power on the blue brake output wire when you step on your brake pedal as well as when you hit the manual override.

The OL code is for overload and shows a short on that blue wire. I recommend cutting that blue wire about 6 inches back from the controller and then testing it using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. If it works there, then you will simply run a new wire # 10-1-1 from that location to the 5 o'clock pin on your 7-way. This will solve your issue and give you correct braking.
