Derale 32" High-Output, Electric Radiator Fan # D16934 Slows Idle on 2001 Chevy Express Van
Question:
Hi mike. I installed the derale 26” fan on my van, with the manual switch inside the vehicle and it works fine, but there is something bothers me, when i turn the fan on the idle s down at the begining, for a second and than goes up again. Also the alternator gauge needle s a little bit and than it goes up to 14 again. Is that normal? Like i sayd, i have 130 amp alternator on my van. Maybe i need higher output alternator. Give me your opinion please. Thank you

Expert Reply:
The sudden draw of 50 amps when fan # D16934 turns on will cause that momentary decline that you are experiencing. The higher the RPMs of the motor the less it will affect anything. You can certainly go to a higher capacity alternator but it is not 100 percent necessary provided the draw of the fan is not overdrawing the electrical system.
