How to Determine if a Roof Cargo Box will Allow Rear Hatch of Vehicle to Open

Is there a way I can tell from looking at the product page of a specific Roof Box if it will obstruct the full opening of my Q5s rear hatch? I have Audis original Roof Rack that came with the car. Is there some specific clearance I should measure on my car? What would I compare it to on the product page?

Expert Reply:
There's one measurement you need to take to determine if the box will allow your rear hatch to open. You need to measure from the center of your front crossbar back to the hatch seam on the roof of your 2014 Audi Q5.
For example the Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box # TH629706 needs at least 47-1/2 inches from the front bar center back to the rear hatch seam.
