Converting 4-Way Trailer Connector to a 4- and 7-Way Connector on a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Question:
Hi, I am trying to find the appropriate setup for my Jeep to convert the factory 4 pin wiring harness to a 7/4 pin setup. I noticed that the part HM40975-11933 is specified for a vehicle with a factory wiring harness...but I think it is not the correct adapter as my existing 4 pin connector will not plug into it the additional wiring required for a 7 pin + brake controller Thanks

Take a look at how the factory 4-way of your 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is installed. Follow the harness to see where it plugs in. If it has a rectangular connector like the # HM40975-11933 plugs into then this will work for you. You also will need to add wiring using our # 5506 kit in order to install a brake controller.
If your Jeep's 4-way doesn't plug in using that type of connector, or if you just want to run everything new instead of having to find the correct wires in the Jeep to connect to, you can use our # ETBC7 kit for the entire install. This kit includes the 4- and 7-way connector that plugs into your existing 4-way. it also includes all the wiring and circuit breakers you need to activate the other functions of the 7-way and install a brake controller. It's kind of like having the other two parts mentioned above combined into one. Personally, I think this is the way to go. I've even linked a video of the kit being installed in a JK like yours.
The video shows a complete brake controller installation although not the controller I recommend. The install process is the same though. Instead I prefer the Prodigy P3, part # 90195, which is one of the best on the market. It's one of the easiest to install because of its automatic leveling and it's also easy to use because of the LCD.
