Testing lights on your trailer will require a 12V power source so if you are not going to plug in a connector like # H20046 you will need a separate 12V battery. Then use the negative post of the battery to attach your ground wire to and then and use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 as a type of jumper from the positive post to the wire.

The only way to know for sure what a wire does on a vehicle is to test it with a circuit tester such as #PTW2993. This is because there is no standard for wire color and function and vehicle manufacturers use whatever color they have on hand.…
