Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for Mazda 3 to Carry Motorcycle

Question:

2014 Mazda 3 GT 2.5 Sedan I am looking at getting a hitch installed in the car mentioned above so I can transport a 430 pound sport bike. I am not sure what kind of hitch I need to be getting or what are all the pieces I need to get. Furthermore, I would like to use the MotoTote motorcycle carrier with the hitch and want to make sure it works. Either this carrier or a motorcycle trailer from U Haul. Please help as I am completely clueless as to what I need to buy. Thanks!

For your 2014 Mazda 3 GT, there are only Class I trailer hitches available. The Class I trailer hitches are only capable of a 200 lb tongue weight, so you will not be able to use a motorcycle carrier like # UF48-979033 or similar you have pictured. You will need to use a trailer for your sport bike to haul behind your vehicle.

My recommendation for your vehicle is to start with the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24912. Then use ball mount # 3593 and hitch ball # 19258. Then for your trailer wiring, use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118405 which will plug into your factory harness and draw power from your vehicle battery to protect your electrical components in your vehicle.

For a trailer, I recommend the Detail K2 Mighty Multi A-Frame Utility Trailer - 7-1/2' Long - 1,640 lbs # K2MMT5X7 which will have the ability to tow your bike and a tongue weight your Mazda 3 GT can handle for safe transport. If you go this route, I recommend the wheel chock # TWSPWM along with tie-downs # EM05729 and soft loops # 06303.
