To tow your boat trailer with your 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe you need a trailer hitch receiver, ball mount with the proper hitch ball, a pin and clip or locking hitch pin to secure the ball mount, as well as a trailer wiring harness to power its lights. Also, if the trailer has electric brakes you need a brake controller.

The hitch receiver I recommend is the Curt # C13073. It's a 2 inch, Class III hitch to get the maximum towing capacity you can out of your Hyundai. It's rated up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity but you need to check the capacity of your SUV because you're limited by whichever is lower. I've linked an install video for you to take a look at. All of the necessary hardware is included.

You also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I've attached a link of our selection of ball mounts for a 2 inch hitch receiver as well as an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop you may need. Once you choose a ball mount you can then choose a hitch ball to fit it.

For a pin and clip to fit you can use # PC3 or if you'd like to have a locking pin you can use # BX8858.

The best wiring harness for your Santa Fe is part # 118415. This is a 4-way that operates the basic lighting functions on your trailer. If your trailer has electric brakes you need to use this same 4-way harness along with our # ETBC7 kit. The kit uses the 4-way and converts it to a 7-way to give you the extra functions. It also includes everything you need for the installation of a brake controller.

An electric brake controller is what actually engages electric trailer brakes. With the 7-way using the # ETBC7 kit you can install a controller like the Prodigy P3, part # 90195, in your Hyundai. I've linked a video on the P3 as well as an install video using the # ETBC7 kit in a Santa Fe like yours.

I've also included links to some articles on towing that you might find helpful.
