To get you the proper weight distribution recommendation for your trailer, I need a little more information. Most trailers have a tongue weight that is 10-15% of the total trailer weight and with that accurate loaded tongue weight, you would then need to add any cargo you carry behind the rear axle of your 2018 GMC Canyon. This will give you the total tongue weight and then you will be able to determine the correct system by ensuring you are in the middle range of the weight distribution system total tongue weight rating.
For instance if your total loaded trailer weight is 4,000 lbs and the total tongue weight ends up at 650 lbs when you combine the loaded tongue weight with cargo behind the rear axle, then you want a system that 600 lbs is in the middle of the range.
If this is accurate, then I would recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar # RP66083. That system has a tongue weight range between 400 and 800 lbs and has dual cams that help prevent sway before it occurs. It is the best system for most applications within that weight range. You would need hitch ball # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. I've attached some videos of this weight distribution system that is most likely a fit for your application as long as your loaded tongue weight and cargo are 500 lbs or more.
