Selecting Weight Distribution Hitch for 2015 Ford F-150 Towing 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2400BH

Question:

Hi folks, Im brand new to serious towing, and Im hoping for a recommendation for a high-quality weight distribution hitch. Ive got a 2015 Ford F-150 Crew Cab 4x4.GVWR is 7,000. Payload is 1,794. Towing capacity is 10,900. I plan to pull a 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2400BH. UVW is 5,595. Hitch Weight is 505. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks!

The 505-lb dry hitch weight of your 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2400BH can get you in the ball park as far as selection of a weight distribution/sway control system but the ideal way to go is to measure the Grand Design's actual fully-loaded tongue weight (TW) using scale # e99044. Having the scale to regularly measure also gives you the advantage of knowing your loaded TW is in the correct 12- to 14-percent range which ensures the best handling from the trailer.

By the time you fill your propane tanks, water tanks, load your food and supplies and sporting equipment your trailer TW could rise to anywhere from 700-lbs to 1000-lbs. Please refer to the linked article and video; these will be useful to you as you consider different systems.

You also need to account for any cargo weight in the F-150 that sits behind the rear axle; let's say a generator or a big fully-stocked cooler that could weigh 150-lbs. This cargo weight needs to be added to the trailer's own actual TW to give you the total you need to choose the right system. The ideal is that your total TW falls in the middle of the operating range for the system you choose.

If your total TW ends up being 800-lbs then I suggest the Equal-I-zer 4-Point # EQ37100ET. This system works over a TW range from 600- to 1000-lbs so it would be perfect for 800-lbs total TW.
