Is Towing Recommended With My Ford C-Max Hybrid?

Question:

I am looking to occasionally haul light camping supply loads under 500 lb.The owner’s manual recommends no towing. However, there appears to be plenty of folks out there towing with their C-max. Could you kindly provide a hitch that might fit my needs? Thanks.

The highest weight rated trailer hitch we have to fit the 2014 Ford C-Max is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12092. The trailer hitch has a maximum gross trailer weight up to 3,500 lbs and maximum tongue weight up to 350 lbs, but keep in mind that this doesn't reflect the capacities of your C-Max.

My recommendation is to follow the owner's manual of your 2014 Ford C-Max. But if you decide to tow, this hitch is your best option.

I have help articles attached on tips for towing or carrying cargo with a trailer hitch.

All non-trailer loads bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth should be supported with stabilizing straps # 18050. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.

If you are towing a trailer you will need 4-way Flat Trailer Connector # 119250KIT. The purpose of this item is to control and allow the basic hookup of the three lighting functions (running, turn, and brake lights) plus one pin is provided for a ground wire. Most standard light duty trailers will use a 4-pole flat connector. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Ford C-Max's wiring harness. Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your C-max, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket # 18144 is recommended to keep the connector secure.

The recommended ball mount for this hitch is Curt Class II Drawbar # C45521.

The 2" Hitch Ball # A-82 and Curt Class I and II Pin and Clip # F-4 are also recommended.
