Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe and Tandem Axle Boat Trailer Brakes

Question:

How do I wire my 2018 Santa Fe UltimTe Limited to two a tandem axle boat trailer? I have a seven pin connector on the trailer which also has brake functionality. Is there a harness option that would work for both lights and brake modulation?

For your 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 which will give you the ability to control the braking on your tandem axle boat trailer. This controller is proportional so it will apply the brakes on your trailer at the same time and with the same intensity as you hit the brake pedal in your Santa Fe. It has a nice LCD screen with preset brake options to make it really easy to use. This will work well with electric trailer brakes or electric over hydraulic trailer brakes.

To connect this to your vehicle, I recommend starting with the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11143965 if you have the factory tow package or the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56184 if you don't have the factory tow package. Then you will use the Universal Brake Controller wiring Kit # ETBC7 to convert the 4-way trailer plug to a 7-way and give you the additional wiring, connections, and circuit breakers needed. Once installed with a brake controller this 7-way will give you the lighting you require as well as the braking you need for your trailer.

I've linked videos as well as an article to assist with this installation.

If you happen to have a surge brake actuating coupler, then you don't need a brake controller and will just need to add the reverse function for the electric lockout solenoid. It is common that people mistake this, so if so let me know and I can help with that application.
