Class II Trailer Hitch and Hitch Bike Rack for KIA Amanti Sedan

Question:

What would you recommend? Mainly thinking to use for a bike rack mount. May want to tow utility trailer in future... Will any Class I or II fit my car? Do those classes offer a 2inch receiver option?

You did not mention which specific model year of Kia Amanti you have so I checked a few, including the 2007 and 2008 model years for which we have only one hitch option, a 1-1/4-inch Class II model from Curt, part # C12259. No 2-inch hitch models are offered for this vehicle.

In a Class II rack you can use a Class II-compatible hitch bike rack such as one of those on the linked page. Since the hitch is rated for 300-lbs of tongue weight (downward force) you can use a rack with your bikes up to a total combined weight of 300-lbs. An excellent and high-value rack to consider is the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR which offers 4-bike capacity and which fits both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches. The linked article on hitch racks may be helpful as you consider the best fit for your particular styles of bikes.

Curt requires that for such a load you also use their support strap # 18050 to carry some of the loaded rack's weight.

For towing, this Curt hitch offers a 3500-lb capacity, but check the car's owner's manual to confirm what the car itself is rated to tow. For a 4-pole wiring harness to provide basic trailer lighting functions I suggest Tekonsha kit # 118453 which offers simple plug-in installation. For a ball mount you can use # C45521 along with a hitch ball like 2-inch # A-82.
