Recommended Wiring Harness and Trailer Brake Controller for 2018 VW Atlas

I have a 2018 VW Atlas and I want to tow my travel trailer that has a 7 pin and trailer brakes. Which wiring harness should I get that will allow me to tow and use the trailer brakes properly?

We have everything you need to set up your 2018 VW Atlas to connect with and power your trailer's brakes (along with its basic signal lights).

If you do not yet have any wiring connector installed on your Atlas, you will need to start with a 4-Way connector. For this, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118754. This custom harness will install by plugging right into built-in ports located behind the trim panels in the cargo area on the driver and passenger side of your vehicle. Once you have plugged in the T-connector, you will just have to run the hot lead up to the car battery.

I have attached the installation instructions for this harness that you can also take a look at.

Then, you will need to use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7, which includes everything you need to install a fully functional 7-Way from the above 4-Way, along with the necessary components for installing a brake controller. I have included a great article that details the installation steps for this kit that you might find helpful.

Once you have the 7-Way installed, you will just need to install a trailer brake controller on the vehicle, which is what will actually power and control the trailer's brakes through the 7-Way connector. I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. This is an excellent, proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your VW Atlas. It features an easy-to-read LCD display, storable settings, and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues.
