I looked up the online version of the owner's manual for your 2009 Honda Fit and it says on page 238 that you can flat tow your Honda Fit. I recommend taking a look in your copy of the owner's manual to confirm this and to follow any specific instructions for flat towing.

For a complete flat towing setup you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter.

I recommend going with the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit # 521190-1 along with the Roadmaster Falcon 2 # RM-520 and Safety Cables # RM-643. This gives you a custom fit base plate kit and a tow bar and safety cables that are rated for up to 6,000 lbs.

The wiring I recommend the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This gives you an easy option to get your Honda Fit ready to flat tow and it provides a point for you to install the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 to keep your battery from draining since the key must be left in the accessory position. Your owner's manual suggests that you remove some fuses, which we would recommend part # RM76511 for, but adding a charge line will do the trick.

If you plan on doing quite a bit of flat towing then I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 for a braking system since it is so easy to setup for towing after the initial installation. For this route you would also need the Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 to ensure proper functioning of the lights on your Honda fit.

If you don't plan on towing very much then you may be interested in the Blue Ox Patriot III # BRK2019 instead. This option doesn't require a permanent installation so it is much easier to install and it is portable so that you can easily switch it between different vehicles if the need arises.

Most flat towing setups require a high-low adapter for the tow bar to remain level while towing. I have linked our selection of adapters as well as a helpful article that will help you determine which is the best one for your application for you to check out.
