Hitch Installation Effects on Hands-Free Lift Gate Feature on 2018 Lincoln MKC

Question:

Can this trailer hitch be used with the handsfree lift gate option that is offered from the FACTORY that does not have the trailer tow option in the vehicle? I know that if you add a tow hitch that the factory offers and it has this option you must change out the rear sensor and the lift gate module for vehicles that came with the factory option of handsfree with trailer tow

A factory-installed hands-free lift gate feature will still function after you install an aftermarket hitch but often just the center-positioned sensor will not function. However, the other sensors near the corners of the vehicle will still operate normally. So in practical terms you'll just need to swing your foot near to one of the outside sensors to trigger the lift gate feature.

This will be the case for either of the hitch types offered for your 2018 Lincoln MKC, both the 1-1/4-inch Class II type such as # C12096 and # 36586 or the higher-capacity 2-inch Class III type like # C13194.
