Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution for 2015 Toyota Sequoia and 7500 Pound Jayco Whitehawk
Question:
I have a 2015 Toyota Sequoia sr5, pulling a 2013 Jayco Whitehawk 28dsbh trailer dry weight is 5705lbs, gross weight is 7500 lbs. I’ve narrowed it down to the strait line with trunion bars, just wondering what rating I should go with.

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
Trailer tongue weight is usually 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. On the low end, 10 percent of the 5,705 dry weight, we have 570 pounds. On the high end, 15 percent of the gross of 7,500, we have 1,125 pounds.
Assuming the trailer will have a little more weight when loaded and ready to tow and that you will have some things loaded in the vehicle behind the rear axle, I recommend going with Strait-Line system # RP66084 which is rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight.
If you do not think you will ever get above 800 pounds tongue weight the next step down is # RP66083 rated for 400 to 800 pounds tongue weight.
In either case you will need a ball, # 19286, which is a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball.
