Installation Troubleshooting on Demco Hijacker Autoslide for Ford Factory Prep Package

Question:

Assembly instructions are slim at best but it appears one should install side plates with cam locks in the bed first. Instructions say using center holes should give 15 1/2 height but it’s much higher, like even with top rail of my F350. If I to the bottom holes, how do one get their hand through the inspection cover to reach the nuts in the rear? Also trying to determine which shim plates to use on the Ford puck system. Currently I have one thin one on one side and a thick one on the other. Latches still fairly tight. There has to be a secret shortcut to getting this thing assembled.

The Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider # DM8550024 is designed for the Ford Prep Package. The hitch height settings are 15-1/2", 16-3/4" and 18-1/4", so the center bolt height should be the 16-3/4inches from the bed to the hitch head plate when the head is level. On the lowest setting you may need to remove the hitch from the system for a complete inspection as you stated. Making the pucks lock properly into place may require adding or removing a shim from the locking sockets on the Demco base. If different washer shims are needed for different pucks, that is okay as long as your base locks firmly into the pucks.

I've attached the installation instructions to assist as well as some videos.
