Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2001 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler and I need a tow bar that is 18 wide. The base plates which are already attached to the bumper are exactlt 18 apart. Do you have a tow bar that will fit?

The Blue Ox Adventurer Tow Bar, # BX7322, fits tow bar spreads of 16 inches apart to 34 inches apart on center. But without knowing the brand of base plates you have I cannot say whether or not it is compatible. If you determine that you need base plates, use # BX1118 if your Wrangler has a U-channel bumper, or use # BX1120 for a double tube bumper.

In order to flat tow a vehicle there are 5 things you need. In addition to base plates and a tow bar, you will also need safety cables, like # RM-643. The coiled design help keep the cables from touching the ground. You will also need a lighting solution. There are several options depending on your specific needs. I have included a link to an FAQ article that covers the various options.

Last, most states now require a supplemental braking system on vehicles being flat towed. The easiest to set up and use is the Roadmaster Even Brake, # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. This creates safer braking and reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Make sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for any additional information on flat towing your 2001 Jeep Wrangler. I have included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing for you.
