How to Choose the Correct Weight Distribution System for a Trailer with 600 Lbs Tongue Weight

Question:

I am needing a weight distribution/sway control hitch for my 2014 honda pilot. I am purchasing a single axle travel trailer with a dry weight of 3,300 lbs and a GVWR of 4,400. My pilot can tow 4,500. I am considering the below product but have some questions on the difference in some that say sway control or eliminates sway. What is the difference? FA92-00-060

For starters, in order to choose the correct weight distribution system you will need to determine the total tongue weight (TTW) of your towing setup. This can be calculated by adding the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer to the weight of any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. An easy way to find this is with a tongue weight scale like part # e99044.

In regards to sway control, none of our systems will completely eliminate trailer sway but there are two different types you will want to consider. There are 2-point sway control systems like the Fastway e2 Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System and 4-point sway control systems like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System. A 2-point system only has 2 points of contact to minimize trailer sway whereas a 4-point system has 4 points of contact and will do a better job of minimizing trailer sway.

Assuming the gross trailer weight (GTW) of your trailer is between 400 - 600 lbs, I recommend using the Fastway e2 part # FA92-00-0600 for 2-point sway control or the Equal-i-zer part # EQ37060ET for 4-point sway control. I have attached a review video of each option for you as well.
