Fix Potential Hyper Flashing On 2017 Land Rover Discovery

Question:

I read an answer for a 2008 Land Rover, do you have any experience with the newer 2017 Land Rovers and trailers with LED lights? Will the Curt unit work or do you recommend using the individual resistors in the trailers LED signal brake light circuit? Thanks

I understand your concern that some newer vehicles have to recognize that a trailer is plugged into the connector in order for the towing functions to activate. When a trailer has LED lights the power draw is very low, but that's one advantage of LED lights. However since the power draw is so low the vehicle doesn't recognize the trailer and therefore doesn't turn on the towing features.

Another cause could be that the 2017 Land Rover Discovery recognizes the lights being on the circuit but since the draw is so low, the vehicle thinks the bulb is burning out and therefore turns on a warning to change the bulb and causes the turn signals to hyperflash.

The solutions are to either install load resistors like # DI34ZR in the turn signal wiring or on some European cars, # C35FR or # C57003 will solve this issue.

I've provided you an install diagram showing the proper installation of the load resistor to prevent hyper-flashing. Review your installation to make sure the load resistors are installed as shown in the diagram. For the best installation, the load resistors should be soldered in place and heat shrink tubing should be used to protect the connections.
