Recommended Weight Distribution for Trailer With 500 lbs of Tongue Weight
Question:
I have a rockwood Roo 19, approx 500lbs tongue weight, would the 10k reese RP66083 be appropriate? I have heard good feedback on this hitch. Currently use a traditional wd setup with friction sway control and am not happy with it. Towing with a 2005 Yukon XL

It is possible to make an estimate based on the 500 lbs tongue weight, but in order to choose the best weight distribution system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2005 GMC Yukon XL. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.
The weight distribution system you referenced, the Reese Strait-Line # RP66083 is going to be a good choice if you have a tongue weight of 500 lbs and no more than about 150 lbs of cargo behind the rear axle of your Yukon. The # RP66083 has a tongue weight capacity of between 400 lbs and 800 lbs and would be most effective if your total tongue weight is in the 600 lb - 650 lb range. This is a very effective weight distribution system which uses a dual-cam design in order to keep your trailer in a straight line and prevent sway. You'll only need a hitch ball to go with the Strait-Line, # A-90 for a 2" ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16" ball.
I"ve added links to video reviews of this system for you to take a look at as well.
