Malone or Sportrack Vista Roof Cargo Box Recommendation for 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
Im in the market for a roof top cargo box. I dont know if I should go with the long an aerodynamic or fat and squat. We dont ski or snowboard. This would be strictly for additional storage space of luggage, beach chairs, etc. I have a 2014 Subaru Outback. The factory crossbar measurements are 50inch from center of front bar to hatch seam and 10.5inch or 20.5inch from center of rear bar to seam. I was looking at the SportRack XL SR7018 and the Malone Profile 18B. Your help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

The Sportrack Vista XL part # SR7018 that you mentioned fits as long as you can position the crossbars of the rack 23-5/8", 25-7/8", 27-7/8", and 29-7/8" apart. The Malone Profile18B Rooftop Cargo Box # MPG911 will also fit and allow the rear hatch to open as well.
Dimensions are 63" long x 38" wide x 19" tall for the Sportrack and 78-3/4" long x 32-3/8" wide x 15-3/4" tall for the Malone.
If it were me I would go with the Malone as I prefer the side opening style of this box as well as the mounting hardware of this box.
