Parts Needed to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with Inverted Pin Box with a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Question:

I have a 2018 Chevy 2500 HD gas crew cab, its a Z71 with a 6 1/2 foot box. Im looking at buying a used 5th wheel trailer. the trailer has an inverted 5th wheel is there an easy way to make it work. I would also like to easily remove hitch in truck to be able use the full bed.

I do have a solution for you, but we typically recommend going with a sliding 5th wheel hitch when towing a 5th wheel trailer with a truck that has a bed shorter than 8 feet.

For your 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with a 6-1/2 foot bed I recommend installing the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1016 and then using the B&W Turnoverball King Pin Adapter # BWGNXA4000. This adapter allows you to tow your trailer that has an inverted 5th wheel pin box and can easily be removed as it weighs just over 20 lbs.

As I stated above, we usually recommend going with a sliding 5th wheel hitch for shorter truck beds so that you have proper trailer to cab clearance when making tighter turns, but it is not required. If you are careful you can make this work.

If you would rather go with a sliding 5th wheel hitch for peace of mind then you need to replace your current pin box with a standard pin box. Let me know what the pin box number is (located on the sticker) and I can recommend a replacement pin box as well as a sliding 5th wheel hitch.

You also may be interested in putting a 7-Way in the bed of your Silverado to make connecting and disconnecting your trailer much easier. For that I recommend the Bargman part # 50-97-410.

I have attached some review videos for you to check out as well.
