Best Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Toyota Sienna

Question:

The Draw Tite seems to fit under the van only allowing the actual hitch to show. Is that correct and specific to Draw Tite only? We will be using the hitch to tow a bike rack with an option to pull a light trailer if needed. Am I correct in choosing a Class III? Thank you

Actually the Draw-Tite # 76112, Curt # C13343, etrailer # e98853, and EcoHitch # 306-X7255 all install so that only the receiver is showing. A lot of people like this look instead of having a thick piece of steel underneath their vehicle as well.

You are correct in choosing a Class III trailer hitch with a 2" receiver over a Class II trailer hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. The reason being that they are stronger and they are compatible with many more accessories. For your application I recommend going with the EcoHitch # 306-X7255 as it is eco friendly due to the recycled materials and will give you the best ground and bumper clearance. I have attached an installation video of this on a 2017 Sienna for you to reference.

Since your 2016 Toyota Sienna has a max towing weight capacity of 3,500 lbs this means that any of these trailer hitches will work just fine. Typically the vehicle manufacturers state the Tongue Weight (TW) of the vehicle as being 10% of the max weight capacity which just goes to show that they are all the same.

To finish your towing setup you need a wiring kit like the reliable Tekonsha T-One # 118648 and a ball mount/hitch ball combination like the Curt # C45036. You will need to check out the attached ball mount article to ensure that the 2" drop is correct for your application.
