Recommended Weight Distribution System for A-Frame Trailer With Accessories That Wont Fit Brackets
Question:
Hi, Well Im glad I did a little bit more searching! I was looking at a Fastway E2 450 weight distribution hitch for my 2516 Rockwood being towed with a 2017 Ford Flex EcoBoost. But I have found out that I need a hanger kit as the a frame of the trailer is plugged up with winch, dual propane bottles and dual batteries. I was looking at a trunnion style weight distribution hitch, they dont have chains so the hanger kit will not work Unfortunately!!! So the question is, with a tongue weight of just under 400 lb, what models and or brands of weight distribution hitches are compatible with a hanger kit that I can bolt to the side frame of the trailer

For your trailer with the extensive tongue components, you can use the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0600, but you will need to drill your frame through to bolt on the hangers. This is a better size for your tongue weight listed and will give you the functions you desire. This will account for the total tongue weight which includes the loaded tongue weight of your trailer as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2017 Ford Flex. For this you will also need hitch ball like listed below and a socket like # ALL643216 for installation.
Another option is to use the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar # RP66082. This system is a better system for sway control and utilizes the dual cams which mount to the underside of your trailer frame. Then you will need to use chain hangers like # RP58305 to mount if your A-frame won't allow for the top mount in the necessary location. For a 2-5/16 inch ball use # A-6 or for a 2 inch ball use # A-90.
