Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2009 Honda Pilot without Factory Tow Package

Question:

What parts are needed for a 2009 Pilot without any factory tow package to install a brake controller and have a 7-pin tow connector at rear hitch? I have a reese 2 receiver installed. there is a non-OEM 4-pin plug in rear. Thanks

Since your 2009 Honda Pilot did not come with a factory tow package, and you have already installed an aftermarket 4-Way wiring harness, you will need to install a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7.

The ETBC7 will provide a 7-Way trailer connector at the rear of the vehicle, and it includes all the wiring needed to install a brake controller. I have included a link to an FAQ article and a video showing the installation of an ETBC7 kit.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. It is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included its instructions as well. The only other part you will need is a circuit tester, like # PTW2993, if you need one.
