I cant seem to be able to pry the factory bump stops out of their mounting cups. Is there a technique to doing this

The bump stops are compression fit into the cups on the truck frame, therefore they aren't designed to come out easily.
I have spoken with one of my contacts at Timbren, who tells me that the bump stop can be removed with a pair of channel lock-type pliers. Grasp the bump stop with the pliers and pull down on it while twisting back and forth.
In case you do not have them handy, I have provided a link to the install instructions.
