Brake Controller Recommendation for 2018 Audi Q7

Question:

Need a brake controller for 2018 Audi Q7 that has the trailer 7-pin installed and a brake controller plug resting inside the dash. I am partial to the Tekonsha brand P2 or P3. What do I need to complete the connections? asked by: Larry O I have a 2108 Q7 and also need a brake controller. Referring to the information below what is the Tech Bulletin that explains the parts needed and wiring information? Expert Reply: The P3 part # 90195 is the way to go for your 2018 Audi Q7 that has tow package. This is the most advanced and easy to use brake controller around. Its also super reliable. We can help point you in the right direction for the install wiring, but we do not carry the parts youll need. Additional wiring, from an authorized dealer, is necessary to correctly wire the brake control harness: qty. 1 #1J0-972-782 housing and qty. 2 #000-979-228 wire/terminal assemblies. Please see the Tech Bulletin.

The P3 # 90195 or the P2 # 90885 are the best options out there for a brake controller in your 2018 Audi Q7. I am partial to the P3 though since it has a display that shows fully worded messages instead of codes to decipher.

If you have a brake controller connector under your dash that is complete with all of the circuits you need that would make things easy. You'd just need to run the white wire of the controller to the ground, the red wire to the circuit that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied, black to the wire that's hot all the time, and blue to the circuit that goes to the 7-way.

Ground the tester to the constant 12-volt power wire, then probe the remaining two wires.  The wire that lights the tester will be the ground, the other will be the brake output circuit.

If that plug is not activated check out the Tech Bulletin article I attached below for more info.
