Cargo Tie Down Recommendations for 5x8 Enclosed Cargo Trailer

Question:

Please can you help me decide which of the surface mount tie-downs is best to use on the floor a 5x8 enclosed trailer in which I will normally haul household goods such as boxes and furniture? I am considering one of RR2K, RR8K or RR09. Please suggest which would have the best WLL and also which base plate is needed for any of them where it is not included the last one I guess, since the first two seem to have it included. Whichever one I choose I am thinking to use a total of six, three down each side of the trailer at equal intervals. Thanks!

Between the three cargo tie-down anchors you referenced, parts # RR2K, # RR8K and # RR09, I would go with the # RR2K because it includes the reinforcing backing plate and because it offers you the choice of recessed or surface mounting. Since your cargo items just need to be secured inside the trailer, but not have their full weight held, these items should be fine.

I can offer you another option to consider, one that might better suit the trailer and cargo items, but that will be up to you, of course. That option is to install E-Track cargo tracks like the 4-inch-long # EM19145 - or one of the many other track lengths we offer, from the single-slot # SLSZ all the way up to the 8-foot size. All E-Tracks and E-Track cargo accessories are shown on the linked page.

The benefits of using E-Tracks instead of fixed-point tie-downs are that you have much more flexibility in where you can attach cargo straps. The tracks also can be used with accessory items like the Wood Beam Socket # 59149 which lets you fabricate a moveable and removable shelf or load support using 2 x 4 lumber. E-Tracks also give you the option of securing tracks to the walls of your trailer in case that better suits the cargo. Tie-down rings for the tracks, like # SLARI that is rated for 1000-lbs, are available and these too can be positioned anywhere along the tracks.
