Recommended 7-Way and Brake Controller for 2012 Ford F-150 with Factory 4-Way
Question:
How how to wire a 7 pin plug to 2012 SuperCrew cab F150 5.0 2 wheel drive that came with 4 pin Factory plug. Ive checked the fuse boxes for the most part everything is where it needs to be I dont have a rear defroster on my window rear window so I just substituted that relay for the Relay that is needed for the electric brake system and Ive heard a few different videos say different things and yeah I would love a simple solution not worried if it takes me wiring from the front of truck. I just want to make sure that I get it right that is why I also need to know do I need a control module for the electric brakes since the truck did not already have an electric brake system for a trailer

For your 2012 Ford F-150 with factory 4-way, I recommend the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole # 37185. This will allow you to connect your 4-way to the 7-way connector and then add the other functions. The purple wire will go to your reverse light function at your taillight, then you will connect the blue wire to the blue wire in your driver's side frame rail. You will connect the black wire to the orange or red wire in the drivers side frame rail. These two wires are already run for you. If you need additional wire, I recommend # 10-2-1 and # DW05745-5.
Then I recommend using the wiring harness # 22292 and brake controller # 90195 to connect to your factory wiring to give you the electric brake controller you are seeking. This is our most popular brake controller due to the functions and reliability. The wiring adapter plugs into the built-in connector beneath your vehicle's dashboard. To access this connector, first locate the instrument cluster finish panel in the center of you dash, near the driver's side. Carefully pry the panel out and undo the locking tabs to remove the panel. Plug the adaptor into the mating connector in the large gray housing behind the panel.
